The General Strategy To be Undertaken

– Give the diagnostic test. Do not worry about how many formulas you remember or how many words you know. This test will be an eye opener as to how much is still left to be done.

– GRE quantitative is more logical than calculation based. Always keep this is mind even when you don’t remember the formula you can solve it by logic. For any exam you should prepare to that level of difficulty as needed. Do not go overboard in any section. It is a natural tendency that one always wants to do what he is good at but remember in the GRE you cannot escape a section.

– I agree words need to be learnt but there are several ways to learn the words. Mugging up is one way but root words or relating one word to a group of words or through a sentence is also possible. You need patience and never give up.

– Analogy is very logic oriented. It is possible that you know the exact meaning of all the words in an analogy question yet you get a wrong answer. So the bottom line is, learn the art of building bridges and then solve. The words that you learn in vocabulary help you out in analogy but it is not a necessary and sufficient condition to get them right.

– Sentence completion is all about presence of mind. In Kaplan they have explained it very well. For example words like “although” reflect that an opposite meaning is being conveyed. Read the rules properly and follow them you will be able to get 9 out of 10 correct.

– Reading comprehension The greatest difficulty is reading the passage on the screen and you can see only the first question. Scrolling the passage up and down. I found the passages dealing with psychology, arts and history were difficult.
